The body of Mr. JOHN CARTER, butcher, late of Buffalo, was found on Monday last in the lock at the Welland Canal harbour, under the ice. From the evidence given before the jury of inquest, it must have remained their about 10 days. Verdict – accidental death.

LEFT Montreal on the 10th of October, 1825, for the Upper Province, or the United States, and was engaged in peddling on the way, in search of his brothers, James and Robert, who had gone several months before – and has not since been heard of, by them. The object of this notice is to request the said William to write to his brothers immediately, directed to “St. Catharines, on the Welland Canal,” informing them of his situation. Any person who may be acquainted with this lad, will greatly oblige the parties, by giving him notice of this advertisement, or the subscribers of his place of residence. he is 18 or 19 years old, small of his age, and slender form. THE Subscriber is wishing to astain where his sister ROSA KEELER, is. She landed at Quebec about ten years ago, from Caven county, Ireland, since which time he has not heard from her. Her husband’s name is THOMAS KEELER. It is with pain that we announce in this days paper the melancholy intelligence of the death of Lieut. Col. HUXLEY, late of the 70th Regt. Inspecting Field Officer in Nova Scotia. Col. HUXLEY had resided some years in these Provinces, and was universally respected and esteemed. The Colonel has left a young widow (daughter of the late paymaster SCOTT, of 70th Regt. and Niece of Sir Walter Scott) and a son to mourn his untimely end.

At Sackett’s Harbour, N.Y. on the 21st instant, Jesse Leavenworth, Esq. (father of Col. Henry Leavenworth, of the 3d Reg’t. U.S. Infantry,) aged 86 years. He was an intrepic and intelligent officer of the French war and the war of the revolution.

On the 20th September, in his 66th year, BROWNLOW BERTIE MATHEW, Esq. Nephew of the last Duke of Ancaster. The deceased was the maternal uncle of His Excellency Sir Peregrine Maitland.

JOHN GIBSON is desirous to hear of HENRY FARR, Tailor, a native of the county of Antrim, Ireland, who is supposed to reside near Plattsburg, Clinton county, N.Y. The said Henry Farr (or if he is not living, his nearest kin,) is requested to send his address, and such other information as he may choose, to the subscriber, directed to “St. Catharines, Upper Canada,” when he will hear the particulars of the decease of his brother George Farr, shoemaker, who lately resided near this place. In Seneca, N.Y. on the 27th ult. Mr. Cideon Ball, Senator, aged 66 years, a soldier of the revolution.

On the 8th inst. Mr. Daniel Fisher, merchant in Montreal, and brother-in-law to Mr. George Munro of this town, was severely scorched, his hair burned off, and his face completely blackened by the carelessness of one of his store labourers who in removing a barrel of damaged gunpowder tried some of it and the cask took fire. Mr. F. who is universally respected is not in danger of his life. One of his clerks was severely but not dangerously bruised. – Ib.

Fire in Stamford. – On the 22d inst. about 4 o’clock, A.M. Doctor Lefferty’s family were aroused from their slumbers by the crackling of fire near the roof of the house; – the whole premises were soon reduced to ashes. So rapid was its progress, that hardly any thing was saved. It is said the loss was not less than £1,750. – The Doctor was at York, attending to his Parliamentary duties. – Gleaner

MARRIED,

At York, on the 7th instant, by the Rev. Mr. Hudson, Chaplain to the Forces, Mr. George Houghton, of the Royal Engineer Department, Fort George, to Miss Bell, daughter of Mr. Thomas Bell, of the same department, York.

On Monday the 12th inst. in Woodstock, Mr. Leonard Lonas, a doughty old gentleman who has weathered out 37 winters, to the buxom Miss Katy Mumau, aged 42. – The snow headed groom dropped a tear over the grave of his former wife but two weeks ago, and his dulcinea, Miss Katy, buried her father the evening before the wedding day. So wags the world – No accounting for tastes or for fashions.

In West Springfield, Mass. Mr. Stephen Bumfret, aged 76 years, a revolutionary pensioner to Miss Sarah Dewey, aged 33. In ’76 he fought and bled, At ’76 he woo’d – and wed.

At York, on the 11th inst. Mr. John McDougall, merchant.

In Ancaster, on the 7th inst. Mrs. Susan Wilson, relict of the late Mr. Ja’s Wilson.

In Niagara, on the 4th inst. Mr. Archibald McCullum, aged 34 years.

Drowned, on the 29th Oct. last, in the De Lievre, Mr. Thomas Hysiop, a native of Scotland, but late of the Township of Buckingham, farmer.
